From nearly five decades, Assistance League Tulsa has committed to serving student’s attending Tulsa Public elementary schools through our Operation School Bell® programs. To determine the level of services an individual school may receive, site specific economic profiles are utilized. Students are then served through one or more of the following Operation School Bell program:
Uniform Shirts:
-
- Each student enrolled in a school supported by Operation School Bell receives two new uniform shirts at the start of the academic year. Our objective is to ensure that these shirts are delivered to schools no later than the first two weeks of classes. Annually, nearly 25,000 shirts are distributed to students through this initiative.
School site clothes and care closets:
To meet immediate needs of students, qualifying schools receive items for their campus clothes and care closets, including:
- Uniform pants in multiple sizes are supplied to schools at the start of the academic year to ensure students in need have access to appropriate attire. Additional items may be periodically restocked or added to the closets throughout the year as they become available.
- Hi&Dry bags are provided with clothing items specifically for the youngest students in the event of an accident at school.
- Personal care items, school supplies and additional clothing items are stocked at each school location. School personnel select needed items for their students and communities from an online shopping platform.
Participation in Operation School Bell clothing days:
Students receive new clothing items to ready them to be confident, prepared learners. Clothing items include – two complete school uniforms, undergarments, shoes, sweatshirt, coat and an outfit for home or free dress day. School staff identify participants for Operation School Bell clothing days. Please note, Assistance League Tulsa does not work directly with families.
In addition, to working directly with school sites, Assistance League Tulsa provides additional support to students covered by the McKinney-Vento Act to provide clothing and essential items for unhoused students.
Literacy:
Two new books are provided to each student participating in Operation School Bell clothing days for their home libraries. Books are funded in part by the Brannin Family Foundation endowment.
